Artist's Statement

This is not a series in the traditional form, but I have collected them into one group.

 

Three of the works were made in coordination with Southridge Community Church in St. Catharines, Ontario for services in 2019 and 2020. . Ropes of Control and Freedom of Peace were created together and were inspired by my journey with anxiety. Light of Peace was inspired using the music chosen for congregational worship on that date. Created as an expression of worship, this painting was completed in a short time frame and would have (if not for COVID restrictions) been painted live in the service.

 

Pearls to Pigs was made through prayer and connection with the Holy Spirit.

 

Holy is a painting inspired by the song Colour by Ellie Holcomb - specifically the lyrics "...in the stained-glass church of ordinary life..."

These works are examples of how the church can use the visual arts in coordination with liturgy and worship in an authentic and meaningful way. The corresponding videos will be connected to the images.
