Artist’s Statement

Created as an element of the 2024 Easter Sunday service at Bethany Community Church, St. Catharines, Ontario

On the Sunday before Lent, Cherie led the congregation in a Lectio Divina practice, examining verses from Romans 8. Afterward, the congregation was invited to use paper and pencils provided to make notes, thoughts, prayers, drawings or any other responses on the cards and to hand them in before leaving the service. They did not know what the cards were going to be used for, but they were told they would be used to create a piece of artwork. 

The cards were collected and prayed over through the weeks of Lent, and the Holy Spirit inspired Cherie to create this mosaic using them.​
